This makes a perfect gift because of the color the Himalayan Salt adds to the scrub. Himalayan salt is great at exfoliating and removing dead skin, it also is said to helps draw out toxins and cleanse. Just 3 ingredients that can be found just about any Walmart and some grocery stores. We found the Himalayan Salt by the other salts in the spice aisle, the Coconut Oil in the grocery section as well and if you add Essential Oils or Vitamin E oil, those can be found in the pharmacy section.
Ratio of Oil to Salt is 2-1 if you want to make a small sample first.
Himalayan Salt Scrub
1 cup Coconut Oil (use refined if you are adding Essential Oils)
1/2 cup Himalayan Salt
Few drops of Essential Oil or a teaspoon of Vitamin E Oil (optional)
Coconut Oil Scrub
This scrub is one of our favorites. Basically make it in 2:1 ration Coconut Oil, Epsom Salt. Add a few drops of Essential Oils (optional). If you use unrefined Coconut Oil it will have a nice fragrance without adding anything extra.
1 cup Coconut Oil (we prefer unrefined unless you are adding Essential Oils)
1/2 cup Epsom Salt
8-10 drops of Essential Oils or a teaspoon of Vitamin E Oil (optional)
We did a quarter of this recipe to test with just the unrefined Coconut Oil and Epsom Salt and really liked the exfoliating of the Salt and the way the Coconut oil is absorbed into the skin leaving it feeling soft and surprisingly not oily…however it will leave an oily film in the tub so rinse/scrub it well to avoid a slippery surface.
Brown Sugar Scrub
I found this simple 3 ingredient recipe is not as pretty but it works really well. The brown sugar’s coarse granules provides the exfoliation, the baking soda whitens (perfect after wearing flip flops all summer) and the olive oil soothes and smoothes. It is a much more “soupy” consistency than the above scrubs.
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1 Tablespoon baking soda
1 Tablespoon olive oil
Mix all three ingredients together and store in a mason jar or sealed container if you want to triple the recipe for multiple days.
Use the scrub on your feet, knees, and elbows, or any other rough areas, and rinse off well. For best results on your feet, use a favorite foot file on your heels before you use the scrub.
The Himalayan Salt Scrub Jar and the Coconut Scrub container was found at Walmart in their kitchen section! I was excited especially with the one with the little spoon that slips into the slot on the bottle…best of all both were less that $2. Add a ribbon and it becomes a perfect gift.
