Pets & Tots!

dogs and children

I was working on developing my recipe for my upcoming Pillsbury post on the computer…and I looked over at my daughter who was home ill.  She had been petting our puppy and fell asleep…I felt like Cinzia sensed she wasn’t feeling well and gently place her paw around my daughter’s shoulder.  It was really sweet! My camera is always on hand and I caught this really special moment.

Before we had Cinzia, my daughter had two “terrifying” experiences with dogs at a park.  The first was when she was 3 and two unleashed dogs came running at us.  One was a lab and the other a small breed and just wanted to meet us but came barking.  My daughter climbed me like a tree!  The second time she was 4 and we were on a playground and an unleashed pug was also there with his family.  My daughter started to head to us at the bench and the pug decided to run to his family at the same time… She heard him “huffing” as he ran behind her.  She turned around and saw him.   Thinking he was chasing her, she started running as fast as her little legs would go, screaming in fright.

It has taken her until now to get comfortable with dogs and even our puppy.  We showed her how to pet Cinzia, and how to read whether she was excited or calm.  Letting her participate in dog training classes and helping walk and feed and train Cinzia has helped develop her confidence day by day.  While I always encourage caution, it’s wonderful to see her bond with Cinzia.

I just love this site! WOW. Animals are so much smarter than some people give them credit for. I remember when my cousin was pregnant with her first child. She had this big fuzzy dog, Dixie, that slept with her every night. She went to bed feeling great, knowing that labor could start anytime. But, she was in no discomfort. However, she noticed that Dixie settled down and nestled herself in the small of her back and would not budge!! She thought Dixie was being strange and drifted off to sleep. Her first pain hit at 4:15 am! Dixie knew something was going on!! So I know animals are very smart, very receptive to love and just wonderful! Have a great day. Just wanted to share this tidbit with you.
